A Company of Wolves

Postby Baelor » September 21st, 2011, 12:58 pm

These are the first couple of pregen characters for my mini-campaign - which I have entitled - A Company of Wolves.

More on the campaign in a later post, but here are three player characters. I have not named them or given them a gender, so that the players have some choices to make. Re: A Company of Wolves

The premise of 'A Company of Wolves' is that the player characters are thrown together by various forces in their backstories to track down a pack of marauding bandits that are preying on vital caravan trade from Cradle Lake to Morat Kerr. The first caravan of the season has been lost and the denizens of Morat Kerr are suffering already. It is up to the PCs to deal with whatever took out the caravan AND its protection - which included both conventional mercenaries and Ishinari. The PCs have only days to either deal with the situation or report back and become caravan guards themselves. The next caravan is nearly ready to leave Cradle Lake and the people of Morat Kerr are desperate.

The antagonists are a pair of ishinari bandits and the far humans under their heel. They lair in a village built on a ruin on the landward edge of the Marsh Coast. The Ishinari bandits - Kalanossa and her lover, Rodrio, are drone controllers with a sizable pack of quadrupedal drones at their beck, as well as a motley band of far human marauders. Since their success in taking out the first caravan, they have also acquired the Ishin that was part of the guard, now free of its pesky owner and in the hands of one of Kalonossa's lackeys, Kel Vrey, the traitor who sold out the caravan to get his shot at the pilot's seat of an Ishin. Although they have never been richer, Kalanossa and her pack are eager for more spoils. Kalanossa dreams large.

The adventure will combine some sleuthing to track down the bandits, character interaction with interesting NPCs who know or have what the PCs want, and some personal and diverse motivations for each of the PCs. For one PC, the Ishinari betrayed and murdered by Kel Vrey was an old friend. Another must work off the debt that made it possible for him/her to become an Ishinari in the first place. A third will learn about the involvement of Kalanossa and Rodrio, and recall the time he/she had to crawl into the mouth of a volcano to escape the killer drones of the duo's attack. And the fourth [if there is a fourth player] has family in Morat Kerr and is eager to alleviate the suffering there.

This is Awesome! I would love to play in this game. This is why I made Remnants.

When are you going to run it? You have to let me know how it goes.

Thanks for those words. I am very pleased that creator of the game is liking the way I am going with this.

I was originally intending to run 'A Company of Wolves' during the time when my friend Rick - who introduced me to Remnants, but not in time to introduce me to you guys at GenCon - was on holiday in Ireland. But my life has gotten very busy for the next few weeks, so I think I will take mercy on him [and myself] and wait til he gets back so he can play too.

I am already running several other games [3.5 D&D and a few BASH superheroes games], so I can't commit to another long term campaign right now, but I can do a mini-campaign as a break from the usual. So, enter Remnants. If it goes well, I hope to run a longer-term Remnants game when one of my others winds down.

What this all means is that I will likely run it between mid October and Christmas. I will definitely post about it when I do. Since none of my players frequent these forums, I will also post occasional updates to the planning stages here before I run it.

Steve: If you would like to see the website I developed for my 3.5 game, lmk via PM or email and I will send you the address via email.

I like it a lot. You have some lucky players about to enter a world of fun.
A blow by blow actual play would be awesome.

I updated the original post with a third character, and personalized a couple of things on the first two - mostly in the way of advantages or disadvantages that fit the background for 'A Company of Wolves'.

My wandering player is back in town at the end of this week, So I hope to start this up in the next two or three weeks.

Sorry. I've been away for a while. I am still hoping to run 'A Company of Wolves', but I have not been able to get to it so far. When I do, I will post play reports.
